Appleton, Wisconsin, January 28, 2022 – The Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council has named Appvion a Green Master within its Green Masters Program. Recognizing sustainable actions by businesses from across the state of Wisconsin, the Green Masters program works to identify businesses that have taken at least one action within each of the nine pillars of sustainability. Participants in the program receive recognition for their sustainability accomplishments and develop ideas for future sustainability actions. The top 20 percent of companies that apply to the Green Masters Program each year are identified and recognized as Green Masters level companies.
WSBC’s Green Masters Program requires applicants to specify their sustainable business practices and show its improvement compared to previous years. Appvion’s 2021 sustainability achievements that helped us reach Green Masters status include:
- Releasing our first Corporate Sustainability report
- Engaging with suppliers on sustainability initiatives
- Installing new gas metering on coaters to gain real-time gas usage
- Replacing water-cooled Tappi unit in R&D with air-cooled
- Initiating coating pump-back process to save unused coating
- Setting public sustainability goals
In 2021, Appvion released its first sustainability report, highlighting many outstanding achievements, and now the Company is proud to have launched its 2030 sustainability strategy and goals. “As we reflect on our journey and our impact, there are many things to be proud of and even more ahead to challenge and excite us. What began with a focus on resource efficiency quickly expanded to designing and manufacturing products with differentiated sustainability attributes,” said Michelle Miller, Chief Sustainability Officer, Appvion.
The Green Masters Program is an objective, points-based recognition, assessment and certification program that enables Wisconsin businesses of all sizes and from any sector to join a group of like-minded companies working towards sustainability. The program has established three levels of participation: Green Apprentice, Green Professional, and Green Master. Appvion achieved a score within the top 20% of all applicants to earn the designation of Green Master.
